About Card replacement
Starting in August 2015, Octopus began a voluntary replacement programme for the First Generation On-Loan Octopus (those Octopus with card numbers that have no bracket for the last digit as shown on the cards) still in circulation.
The programme is an on-going initiative aimed at keeping the Octopus in circulation up-to-date with technological advances, so all customers enjoy the latest Octopus services, such as the Octopus Online Payment Service and the ability to transfer money to and from Octopus via O! ePay. The programme applies only to Anonymous Octopus and Personalised Octopus currently.
Starting 18 May 2016, we have launched a special reader prompt "Dood dood dood" at Octopus readers of retail outlets and public transport by phases to remind the First Generation On-loan Octopus cardholders to replace their cards at their earliest convenience.
