Octopus Stored Value Limit Automatically Increased to HK$3,000
for Hassle-free Electronic Payment Experience

(Hong Kong, 26 April 2021) Octopus Cards Limited announces that from 29 April 2021, Octopus with a stored value limit of HK$1,000 will have the limit automatically increased to HK$3,000 in phases at various channels. However, customers have sole discretion in deciding what amount to top up at any time, as they enjoy a hassle-free, seamless electronic payment experience.

Octopus with a stored value limit of HK$1,000 are those Octopus products issued before 1 December 2019 – including On-Loan Octopus, Sold Octopus, Bank Co-Brand Octopus and Octopus Mobile SIM and Smart Octopus issued before 1 October 2019*. From 29 April 2021, customers of these Octopus will have the stored value limit automatically upgraded from HK$1,000 to HK$3,000 upon using designated services at different channels including the Octopus App (please see appendix for details) **. The increased stored value limit, together with the Octopus App providing transaction record and remaining value enquiry features at any place any time, will enable customers to enjoy seamless experience for both Octopus and the Octopus App.

In addition, from 16 May 2021, customers who perform cash top-ups or have successfully collected public transport fare subsidy at all outlets of 7-Eleven, Circle K convenience stores and Wellcome Supermarkets will also have the stored value limit of their Octopus automatically increased to HK$3,000.

Once the Octopus stored value limit has been upgraded to HK$3,000, customers can make payments of up to HK$3,000 for each transaction at over 30,000 retail outlets, including 7-Eleven, Circle K convenience stores, city’super, DONKI, LOG-ON, Mannings, PARKnSHOP, SOGO, UNY, Watsons and Wellcome Supermarket, hence cater to their greater spending needs for all walks of life***.

 

Appendix

From 29 April 2021, when tapping an Octopus at the following channels for these services, the stored value limit of the Octopus will be automatically increased from HK$1,000 to HK$3,000.
