(Hong Kong, 11 April 2021) Octopus Cards Limited (OCL) today said it is pleased to have been selected by the HKSAR Government (Government) as one of the Stored Value Facility operators of the consumption voucher scheme (Scheme) by disbursing the vouchers through Octopus cards (including digital Octopus cards on iPhone and Apple watch, Samsung Pay and Huawei Pay). OCL added it will fully support the Government in helping members of the public and merchants to be able to conveniently use the consumption vouchers, which are expected to benefit society as well as sectors that have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Scheme is designed to stimulate the local economy. OCL will rebate the extra income from the Scheme to users or merchants through various means, details of which will be announced in due course.
To maximise the Government’s input and help boost local consumption for the benefit of the economy, OCL will waive the setup costs of the relevant devices for small and medium sized enterprises. New and eligible merchants will be able to sign up directly with OCL to install Octopus readers and enjoy a waiver of the setup cost or rental fee. Those who sign up for the Octopus App for Business will receive a free Octopus Mobile POS and enjoy a waiver of the Bank Account Fund Transfer Fee till the completion of the Scheme. New merchants may also sign up to install Octopus devices through third-party contractors to meet their business needs.
OCL is committed to offering merchants a diverse range of highly compatible payment solutions, including the Octopus App for Business and the Bluetooth-enabled Octopus Mobile POS as well as Octopus Reader, in order to support businesses of different sectors and sizes.
