Octopus Donates Pandemic Relief Bags to Underprivileged Families
(Hong Kong, 21 May 2020) To support the underprivileged in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, Octopus Cards Limited (OCL) recently donated Pandemic Relief Bags to underprivileged families through St. James' Settlement. Octopus staff not only raised funds within the company and volunteered in putting together the relief bags, but also showed their care through action by handing over the Relief Bags to the student representatives on 19 May 2020. The Relief Bags were then distributed to 360 student families from Buddhist Chi King Primary School, St. Edward's Catholic Primary School and Tung Chung Catholic School (Primary).
In addition to face masks and a hand sanitiser, each relief bag contains one Octopus card with HK$100 stored value, and a fun-filled educational board game, allowing the students to enjoy learning at home, particularly while classes are suspended as Hong Kong combats the pandemic.
"The school suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic in recent months has hit underprivileged families hard, especially those lacking proper online learning tools and activity space at home. OCL has prioritised our response by collaborating with our long-time community partner in reaching out to these vulnerable." said Mr Ken Lung, Head of Corporate Communications of OCL. "We are thankful for St. James' Settlement in making the arrangement while the schools are still in lockdown, and also the dedication of the Octopus Volunteer Team in assisting the underprivileged families to get through these challenging times."
Through a diverse range of supportive initiatives and volunteering activities, OCL is strongly committed to supporting underprivileged groups in the community, such as low-income students, wheelchair users, the elderly and ethnic minorities.
