Launch of “Tap, Return & Earn” Beverage Bottles Redemption Scheme
OCL supports the Government's vision for Hong Kong to become a smart and sustainable city. In September, the company partnered with Swire Coca-Cola HK and World Green Organisation to jointly launch the “Tap, Return & Earn” Beverage Bottles Redemption Scheme to drive community recycling and promote sustainable living.
Under the scheme, every recycled plastic bottle will be rewarded with HK$0.2 via Octopus e-payment platform. Citizens simply tap their Octopus on the "smart" bottle deposit machine and put the recycled bottle into the machine. The machine will then scan the barcode on the bottles and compress the plastic. After performing the above steps, citizens can tap their Octopus again to obtain the reward.

Using 100% Recycled Paper
At OCL, we are always seeking ways to further reduce paper usage. In August, we took our sustainability effort one step further, through launching of the Green Printer Campaign, with selected printers using 100% recycled paper. Using 100% recycled paper has direct, tangible benefits to the environment by preventing destructive resource extraction and subsequently conserving energy, reducing pollution and minimising the amount of garbage sent to landfills. This arrangement aims to build a habit of using 100% recycled paper among colleagues, and cultivate a corporate sustainability culture.
OCL Promotes Energy Saving
OCL has designated the month of September as the Energy Saving Month to raise awareness amongst colleagues about energy saving and waste management in Hong Kong. Apart from signing up to the Energy Saving Charter, activities including revamping energy saving labels, a “Waste-to-Energy” journey at T.Park were held. The activities received overwhelming support from colleagues as well as senior management.
- Energy Saving Charter
Pledging to promote energy saving and cultivating a green culture in the company.
- Revamping of energy saving labels
A series of newly designed energy saving labels with interesting facts and QR codes has been launched, to enhance colleagues’ awareness of energy saving. Colleagues can scan the QR codes to access energy saving tips.
- A “Waste-to-Energy” journey at T.Park
On 7 September, OCL organised a green tour to T.Park, a sludge treatment facility operating with a “waste-to-energy” concept. A total of 40 OCL colleagues together with their family members and friends participated in the event. Through the guided tour, the participants not only learned about the whole process of sludge treatment, but also had a rewarding learning experience that helped them understand the impact of human behaviour on the environment and the importance of recycling resources and environmental protection. Some colleagues also spent an enjoyable, relaxing afternoon at T.Spa.
GOALS Green Audit 2019
In September, OCL participated in the 2019 Green Office Awards Labelling Scheme (GOALS) green audits organised by the World Green Organisation. Green measures and new environmentally-friendly initiatives adopted in the office, - such as reduction of paper wastage, donation of e-waste to recycling and environmental service companies and designated Food Waste and Energy Saving months, supported by a series of themed activities - were presented to the green auditors as they toured the office to assess green measures we have adopted.
