In April, the Hong Kong Taxi Council helped the industry launch a taxi-hailing app, eTaxi, and Octopus Cards Limited (OCL) collaborated with them in promoting the "Take eTaxi with Octopus" campaign, to revolutionise the taxi payment service in Hong Kong and boost Hong Kong's drive to becoming a Smart City.

Mr Sunny Cheung, CEO of OCL; Dr Raymond So Wai-man, Under Secretary for Transport and Housing; and Dr. Hung Wing-tat, MH, Chairman of the Hong Kong Taxi Council, officiated the launch of the eTaxi app and announced its key benefits and features during a press conference hosted by the Taxi Council.

The Octopus App for Business provides a simple and convenient payment solution for taxi drivers and passengers. Through the eTaxi app, passengers can pay taxi drivers who use the Octopus App for Business with an Octopus card or O! ePay QR Code – saving taxi drivers the hassle of handling cash and small change. Taxi drivers can also instantly transfer payments received to designated bank accounts, using the Octopus App for Business via the Faster Payment System service.
