Another OSP Deployed for Customers’ Convenient Replacement of their First Generation On-Loan Octopus

The Octopus Card Replacement Programme introduced from August 2015 for customers to voluntarily replace their First Generation On-Loan Octopus, has seen some 600,000 such Octopus being replaced or refunded to-date.

To facilitate customers’ replacement of their First Generation On-Loan Octopus at ease, Octopus Cards Limited (OCL) has deployed another OSP at the MTR Tsing Yi Station, bringing the total number of OSPs located at designated MTR stations and shopping malls to 42.

OCL will continue to identify suitable sites to install more OSPs to enhance customer convenience. To speed up the card replacement process, the company is also considering the introduction of a mandatory replacement phase. Stay tuned for more details.

The First Generation On-Loan Octopus are those Octopus with card numbers that have no brackets for the last digit.

OCL and St. James' Settlement (SJS) are co-organising the “Octopus Kids’ Nurturing Programme - Smart Hong Kong Blueprint 2027” Drawing and Mobile Application Design Contest targeting at Hong Kong’s primary and secondary students as a commemorative highlight of the 10th anniversary of the Octopus Kids’ Nurturing (OKN) Programme.

The contest echoes the education sector’s goal in advocating and promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), while supporting the Government’s policy in building Hong Kong as a smart city. It also further realises the philosophy of OKN in discovering students’ potential and talents, by offering them an opportunity to unleash their creativity and imagination.

The judging panel is formed by leaders from the Government, technology, academic and social service sectors. The results of the contest will be announced in June.

Senior management of OCL met with key stakeholders at various occasions in the first quarter of 2017. Our CEO, Mr Sunny Cheung, attended the UNICEF HK 30th Anniversary Reception to show the company’s support to its cordial charity partner.

In addition, the General Manager of International Business, Mr Andy Yip, shared how Octopus system can benefit the world’s e-ticketing and payment system at the Ticketing and Fare Management Training, jointly provided by the MTR Academy and UITP (Union Internationale des Transports Publics), the International Association of Public Transport. He also addressed Asia-Pacific’s rail stakeholders on what lies ahead in the application of account-based ticketing at the Asia Pacific Rail 2017.

The Octopus Group held its Annual Dinner 2017 in late February. It is a major employee engagement event as a token of appreciation to staff members. This exclusive dinner reception was designed and planned by the OctoClub (the staff club of the company), with fun-filled live performance by senior management and colleagues. In addition to lucky draw and magic show, the employee singing contest was no doubt one of the highlights of the night. All enjoyed a lovely evening full of laughter.
