Octopus Cards Limited Has Been Awarded the SVF Licence

Octopus Cards Limited (OCL) is among the first batch of companies to be awarded the stored value facilities (SVF) licence under the Payment Systems and Stored Value Facilities Ordinance (PSSVFO) by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority on 25 August 2016, with licence number SVF0001. OCL will operate under the new PSSVFO effective 13 November 2016, the time when the relevant law governing our current licence under the Banking Ordinance is lapsed. There will be no impact on our payment and related services.

OCL will leverage the opportunities brought about by the new SVF regulatory regime and develop more innovative Octopus payment services to cater for customers’ diverse payment needs.

Re-activate and Use Your Inactive On-Loan Octopus to Win Fabulous Prizes

Lucky draw-posterOCL has launched a lucky draw promotion to encourage customers’ re-activation and usage of their inactive Octopus. From now till 31 October 2016, holders of On-loan Octopus without add value and usage for 3 years or longer i.e. the Octopus has been inactive since 20 September 2013, will automatically enter the lucky draw upon customer’s re-activating at any Octopus Service Point and using the eligible Octopus for at least one payment transaction. OCL Launches Octopus Mobile Reader

Octopus Mobile ReadeIn July, OCL launched the Octopus Mobile Reader (OMR) for users of iOS devices as a further function enhancement for Octopus O! ePay, and to enable these users to enjoy other Octopus online services via the "Octopus" App. The OMR enables fund transfers between O! ePay accounts and registered Octopus. In addition, through the "Octopus" App, iOS device users can also enjoy Octopus Online Payment Service at designated online merchants (e.g. Taobao), check Octopus' remaining value and the latest transaction records, perform Automatic Add Value Service activation, and collect refund. Priced at HK$228, the Octopus Mobile Reader is available at all 7-Eleven convenience stores at MTR stations.

As part of the Octopus Group’s continued efforts in promoting corporate sustainability, three seminars themed “Driving Sustainability with Energy Efficient Lighting Technology”, “Reduce Social & Environmental Costs through Corporate Sustainability Development” and “Waste Management in Hong Kong” were held in July and August, to enhance understanding of the pressing sustainability issues in Hong Kong. The seminars were addressed by heavyweight guest speakers in their respective fields, sharing their expert opinions with our colleagues and management.

Octopus Group’s Green Office Measures Award Introduced

Committed to fostering a sustainability culture, Octopus Group has launched the “Octopus Green Office Measures Award” to encourage employees to come up with creative ideas that are able to translate green office measures into corporate social values.

All submissions will be posted on the corporate intranet to be voted by employees. The winner can receive a grand prize of HK$10,000, and the winning proposals might be implemented in the Octopus Group office based on the outcome of the feasibility studies.
