It is easy to get an Octopus before or after you arrive in Hong Kong. If you have an iPhone X or later, or Apple Watch Series 3 or later, simply download the Octopus App for Tourists to add a new Octopus. It is a breeze to check your balance and top up using credit card / debit card¹, e-CNY App or Weixin Pay². If you already have a physical Octopus card, you can transfer it to your iPhone or Apple Watch easily.
The stored value limit of Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch is HK$3,000. It comes with a deposit of HK$50, and once it is no longer needed, you can easily apply for a refund through the Octopus App for Tourists.

Add a new Octopus
- Sign in with your Apple ID
- Tap the "+" button
- Select "Add New Octopus"
- Read and agree to the "Terms and Conditions", then tap "Next"
- Select the amount to put on your Octopus
- Select currency⁴
- Follow the steps to add a new Octopus to your iPhone or Apple Watch
or transfer physical Octopus card³ to your iPhone or Apple Watch
- Sign in with your Apple ID
- Tap the "+" button
- Select "Transfer Octopus Card"
- Read and agree to the "Terms and Conditions", then tap "Next"
- Follow the steps to transfer your physical Octopus card³ to your iPhone or Apple Watch

- Open Wallet App
- Tap “+”, then tap “Travel Card”
- Select “Octopus”, then tap “Continue”
- Select the amount to put on your Octopus, then tap “Add”

Top up anytime, anywhere

Select or key in the amount to top up your Octopus
Now you can top up using credit / debit card, e-CNY App or Weixin Pay anytime, anywhere using either the Octopus App for Tourists or Wallet App on your iPhone or Apple Watch. And just like with a physical card, you can still add funds to the Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch at thousands of locations throughout Hong Kong.

- Select the amount to top up your Octopus

Wallet App 
- Open Wallet App
- Select Octopus to top up
- Tap the “Add Money" button
- Select the amount to top up your Octopus, then tap “Add"

Apply for a refund

Request for a refund from Refund Card section
If you would like to apply for a refund of the deposit and remaining value on your Octopus, please make the request directly through Octopus App for Tourists. The amount will be refunded to the credit / debit card, e-CNY App or Weixin Pay Wallet you used to top up your Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch.
Here is the steps for applying refund:
- Sign in with your Apple ID
- Tap "Card Setting"
- Tap "Refund Card"
- Follow the steps to refund the deposit and remaining value on your Octopus to your credit / debit card, e-CNY App or Weixin Pay Wallet

² Payment with Weixin Pay Mainland China Wallet (Weixin account registered with Resident Identity Card issued by the People’s Republic of China) to pay for top up transactions in RMB only.
³ Only On-Loan version of Adult or Elder Octopus can be transferred.

Remarks:
- Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch is designated as a "Mobile Octopus" and is issued subject to the "Conditions of Issue of Octopus".
- Please use your Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch regularly. If it does not have any add value or payment transactions for three years, it will become an Inactive Mobile Octopus and you will have to pay the Inactive Mobile Octopus Administrative Fee.
- A Handling Fee of HKD11 will be charged for any Octopus cancelled within 90 days from the date of issue.
- Refund may take 6-8 weeks to be credited to the credit / debit card, e-CNY App or Weixin Pay Wallet you used to top up the Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch.
