OKAbout Octopus Mastercard Upgrade
To meet new European Union requirements, our system has been enhanced, and you need to upgrade your Octopus Mastercard to continue shopping at merchants in the European Economic Area (EEA). The new Octopus Mastercard has a "EEA" mark in the top right corner, and the card number will also change.
Mastercard defines the European Economic Area (EEA) subregion as the following countries, islands, and territories: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Canary Islands, Ceuta, Melilla, Azores, Madeira, Aland Islands, Jan Mayen, Gibraltar, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion, Saint Martin (French Part), and Mayotte.
Merchants such as Amazon (France, Luxembourg and United Kingdom), Apple (Ireland), Facebook (Ireland) and Steam games (Germany & United Kingdom) are based within the EEA. If you wish to shop at these merchants, please upgrade your Octopus Mastercard as soon as possible, to avoid transactions being declined.
No; doing so is optional. But if there is a possibility that you will shop at merchants anywhere in the EEA, such as the U.K., the sooner you upgrade, the better. This will save you the effort of updating your payment details at different merchants, in the event your card number is eventually changed. Also, some online merchants that may appear to be local are domiciled overseas e.g. Apple (Ireland) and Steam games (Germany & United Kingdom). If these merchants are based within the EEA, you will only be able to make a payment to them after you have upgraded your Octopus Mastercard.
Your must enable your new Octopus Mastercard before it can be used.
Your previous Octopus Mastercard was cancelled. If you have tried to use your previous Octopus Mastercard to pay for subscription services, please update your new Octopus Mastercard information with the related merchants.
To upgrade your Octopus Mastercard, you have to be an Octopus Wallet Plus or Pro (Verified) user.
There is no charge for upgrading your Octopus Mastercard.
If you have an Octopus Wallet Plus or Pro (Verified) opened on or before 6 July 2020, holding an Octopus Mastercard which without EEA on the top right corner, you can upgrade your Octopus Mastercard instantly through the Octopus Mastercard section in the Octopus App.
No, the calculation of the annual cumulative usage of your Octopus Mastercard is based on the date your first successfully applied for the card.
