Octopus Kids' Wise Spending Happy Tour

The Octopus Kids' Nurturing Programme has received extensive recognition and support since its inception. The 2008 programme obtained a matching grant from the government's Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged, enabling an additional 120 children to benefit from the programme. These children were given the opportunity to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities which helped them enhance their confidence and explore their potential.

The 30 best-performing children were invited to join the Octopus Kids' Wise Spending Happy Tour on 17 January 2009 in recognition of their efforts in the programme. They rarely have the chance to travel outside their neighbourhood due to their lack of resources, and they were treated to a joyful day downtown with volunteers from Octopus. First they enjoyed lunch at McDonald's in Hung Hom and then were each given HK$100 on an Octopus to purchase presents for their family. Under the guidance of the Octopus volunteers, they learned to plan their expenses and make wise use of the money according to their needs. Afterwards the children spent an exciting and educational afternoon at the Science Museum.

One of the participating volunteers from Octopus said: "The children were thrilled and proud to be selected to join this recognition activity. It's really touching to see the joy that radiated from their faces, and witness their selfless love and care for their families. I'm very pleased that the Octopus Kids' Nurturing Programme truly helps the needy children in the community, and that Octopus staff are allowed to take part in it."
