Octopus Kids' Nurturing Programme 2007 Recognition Activity

Among the 100 students participating in the Octopus Kids' Nurturing Programme, 30 outstanding students were invited to join a one-day Hong Kong Island Tour on 23 November 2007 as recognition of their excellent performance.  With the help of Octopus volunteers, the students enjoyed a most wonderful day, starting with tram and Peak Tram rides, and then a visit to Museum Tussaud's Hong Kong and great sights of the city from the top of Hong Kong.

For many deprived families living in Tin Shui Wai and Yuen Long, their financial situation makes a day trip to Hong Kong Island a remote dream. Of all the 30 students, one-third had never before set foot on Hong Kong Island, and more than half had never ridden on a tram.

The tour proved to be a valuable educational experience and an opportunity to broaden the vision of the students. During the tour they also learnt the principles of sound financial management by making wise use of their Octopus. They were each given an Octopus with a stored value of HK$100 to cover their expenses on travel and lunch. With the advice of the volunteer team, they were also encouraged to share their happiness with their families by buying them gifts with the remaining value.
