Octopus Self-service Payments in the Telecommunications Sector


(Hong Kong, 31 July 2008) China Mobile Peoples Telephone Co. Ltd (PEOPLES) and Octopus Cards Ltd (OCL) today announced their cooperation to launch, for the first time, Octopus self-service payments in the telecommunications sector. Starting from tomorrow (1 August 2008), Octopus self-service payment machines will be available at all 46 PEOPLES outlets, providing a fast and convenient option for PEOPLES customers to pay their bills.

No pre-registration is needed to use the Octopus payment service at PEOPLES outlets. Customers simply key in their mobile phone number and password at an Octopus payment machine, and the outstanding amount of their mobile phone account will be displayed on the screen. After confirming the payment amount and holding their Octopus over the reader, the selected amount will be automatically deducted from the Octopus. A receipt listing the payment record and the remaining value on the Octopus will also be printed out for customers' easy reference. The whole process is simple and quick.

From 1 Aug to 25 Sept, customers making bill payment through the Octopus Self-service Payment Machine located at PEOPLES outlets will receive an entry into a Lucky Draw for dozens of fabulous prizes. Weekly prizes include Nokia 5310s and HK$1,000 Monthly Fee Rebate. Great prizes in the final draw include a 42" high definition television, travel coupon, and a laptop computer.
