(Hong Kong, 31 July 2008) China Mobile Peoples Telephone Co. Ltd (PEOPLES) and
Octopus Cards Ltd (OCL) today announced their cooperation
to launch, for the first time, Octopus self-service payments
in the telecommunications sector. Starting from tomorrow
(1 August 2008), Octopus self-service payment machines will
be available at all 46 PEOPLES outlets, providing a fast
and convenient option for PEOPLES customers to pay their
bills.
"PEOPLES constantly strive to provide the highest quality service to our customers.
We are extremely proud to be the first mobile operator in
Hong Kong to introduce the Octopus self-service payment service.
This new initiative
offers consumers an ultra-convenient and fast payment method
with the simplest and most straightforward user interface,
without the hassle
of dealing with loose change. Using Octopus cards is a definite
win-win situation for both our customers and our company.
It will considerably shorten the transaction time which will
further enhance customer
flow
and our own operational efficiency as well as providing increased
customer satisfaction," said Mr Charles Henshaw, Director
and CEO of China Mobile
Peoples Telephone Company Limited.
"We are very pleased to partner with PEOPLES to expand our
Octopus service in the telecommunications sector," said
Prudence Chan, Chief Executive Officer of OCL. "The successful
development of Octopus
self-service payment machines, which are tailored to meet
the needs of telecommunications services users, demonstrates
our commitment to offer
innovative Octopus applications which bring true convenience
and benefits to customers."
No pre-registration is needed to use the Octopus payment service
at PEOPLES outlets. Customers simply key in their mobile
phone number and password at an Octopus payment machine,
and the outstanding amount
of their mobile phone account will be displayed on the screen.
After confirming the payment amount and holding their Octopus
over the reader,
the selected amount will be automatically deducted from the
Octopus. A receipt listing the payment record and the remaining
value on the Octopus
will also be printed out for customers' easy reference.
The whole process is simple and quick.
From 1 Aug to 25 Sept, customers making bill payment through
the Octopus Self-service Payment Machine located at PEOPLES
outlets will receive an entry into a Lucky Draw for dozens
of fabulous prizes. Weekly
prizes include Nokia 5310s and HK$1,000 Monthly Fee Rebate.
Great prizes in the final draw include a 42" high definition
television, travel coupon,
and a laptop computer.
