Octopus Launches their
10th Anniversary Octopus Card Design Competition

(Hong Kong, 1 February 2007) To celebrate its 10th Anniversary this year, Octopus has organised an Octopus Card Design Competition open from 2 February to 16 March 2007. The competition encourages Hong Kong people to use their creativity to portray the theme Octopus is Everywhere in Hong Kong. The winning design will be used on the Octopus 10th Anniversary commemorative edition card and on other commemorative items.

Since its launch in September 1997, Octopus has been continually expanding its applications, extending from transport into the retail sector. Octopus is the leading contactless smartcard payment system with the highest penetration rate in the world, with more than 430 merchants providing Octopus payment service and average daily transactions exceeding 10 million. As the first event in Octopus’ 10th Anniversary celebrations, this competition aims at encouraging Hong Kong people to use their imagination and creativity to present their everyday experience that Octopus is Everywhere in Hong Kong.

Prizes of HK$8,000, HK$5,000 and HK$3,000 will be awarded to the winner and 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively, with an additional number of prizes for the finalists.
