Octopus Parking Meters to Launch on June 29

Parking your car can be quick and easy with a simple wave of an Octopus card!

From 29 June 2003, citizens can use their Octopus cards to pay the on-street parking fee whenever they see parking meters with the Octopus sign.

The Octopus parking meter scheme will be implemented in phases to replace the existing 17,000 parking meters to enhance the operation performance and service.

Under the scheme, the first batch of 1,700 metered parking spaces will be installed with Octopus parking meters in Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Happy Valley, Eastern District, Ho Man Tin, Yau Ma Tei, Mong Kok and Tsuen Wan. The replacement scheme will be completed in 2005.

Promotional leaflets on how to use Octopus parking meters are available at licensing offices and 13 government multi-storey carparks. At the beginning of the implementation stage, Octopus parking meter ambassadors will be deployed on site to provide assistance to motorists.
