13 February 2003 "Octopus City" in HKII Expo
Today, Octopus Cards Limited, the world's
leading contactless smartcard system, and CyberM International (Holdings)
Limited (8017) have jointly held a press conference.
Octopus has great pride to present the concept and activities of
"Octopus City", including "Octopus City"
Pavilion and "Octopus" Symposium. In addition, the Company
and CyberM will jointly launch the exhibition and conference registration
application at the Hong Kong Information Infrastructure Expo 2003
(19-22 Feb). It will be a pioneering pilot in adopting Octopus in
exhibition event in Hong Kong.
There are two major aims of the "Octopus City". Firstly,
it is to leverage the Octopus card to enhance the standard and efficiency
of exhibition and convention facilities in Hong Kong, so as to reinforce
its position as a Premier International City in Asia. Cindy Cheng,
Sales & Marketing Director of Octopus, said: "Octopus
continues to innovate with the aim to make people's life easier,
and to contribute towards Hong Kong's development as a world
class city."
With the support of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Octopus
will materialize the concept at the coming HKII Expo. Business attendees
can use their Octopus cards to conduct online registration from
now until Feb 17, and onsite registration during the course of the
event. With the registered Octopus cards, attendees can gain speedy
access to the event hassle free. Moreover, the card can be used
for admission fee payment on the forth day of the Expo to be opened
to the public.
As told by Duncan Lau, Chairman and Managing Director of CyberM
International (Holdings) Limited, there were hundreds of exhibitions
and conferences held in Hong Kong every year, with about 10 million
visitors flow to be handled. By applying this registration system,
event organizers will find it more helpful in speeding up and simplifying
the registration and access logistical processes, while making the
data capture and analytical process more effective and reducing
the time and resources in handling cash.
Secondly, "Octopus City" will be a good platform for
local and overseas visitors to gain first-hand information and experience
of this leading smartcard system. Under the unique "Octopus
City" Pavilion, it will be the first time the Company, in
a joint effort with 13 business partners to showcase its savvy use
in different walks of life while marking the debut of various kinds
of innovative applications and products.
To name a few: insurance machines and music kiosks using Octopus
for payment, access control for residential and commercial premises,
smartcard/fingerprint recognition technology access control and
time attendance system, mobile printing application, on-street and
off-street parking solutions, school application, POS system and
mobile POS solutions integrating Octopus, the latest model of Add-Value
Machine, Octopus Automatic Add-Value Service, the most-up-to-date
mobile phone covers with Octopus function, and Octopus keychain
accessories.
A Symposium entitled "Octopus: Hong Kong's Pride"
will also be held on the first day of the event (19 Feb). It aims
to give an overview of the development of Octopus, its technology,
and applicability in different industries and markets, including
access control, school campuses and retails. The Symposium will
definitely be a good chance to network and foster future partnerships.
