Octopus in New Zealand
Octopus is helping to build a world-class transport ticketing system in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city.
In 2009, Octopus was commissioned to supply the core central clearing house system for a new integrated ticketing system in Auckland, New Zealand. The new ticketing system will be Auckland's and New Zealand's first, true multi-modal ticket for public transport including train, bus and ferry.
The new integrated ticketing system is an initiative of Auckland Transport delivered in conjunction with its partner, Thales, a global technology leader for the transportation market, together with its funders, the New Zealand Transport Agency and the Auckland Council. Thales is the prime contractor of this project.
Octopus, as a strategic partner of Thales, will supply the core central clearing house system in New Zealand for Auckland Transport to process daily transactions from the transport operators, undertake financial reconciliation and securely manage cardholders' records. Its base functionality has been successfully launched in 2012.
