OCL Launches Business O! ePay Payment Service to All Lalamove Drivers
Octopus Cards Limited (OCL) and Lalamove (Easy Mobile Logistics Hong Kong Limited) announced the launch of Business O! ePay payment service to all Lalamove drivers on 25 July. Lalamove drivers can receive Octopus card payment through drivers’ NFC-enabled mobile devices, after downloading the Octopus App for Business through simply activating the Business O! ePay “cashier mode” function. Once the function is on, Lalamove drivers can start receiving payments from all the 35 million Octopus cards in circulation through tapping the cards on drivers’ mobile devises, which effectively function as Octopus readers. O! ePay QR code payment is also accepted.
OCL Partners with WETAXI HK to Launch Mobile Taxi-hailing Platform
OCL and WETAXI Technology Company –an incubatee under the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation’s incubation programme, jointly organised a media conference to announce the launch of a mobile taxi-hailing and payment platform. The platform provides convenient taxi-hailing and payment services using Octopus cards or Octopus O! ePay, via the WETAXI HK app.
The two companies are also launching a charity programme, through which passengers can contribute to the community when using the app and paying taxi fares with Octopus. From now till 8 October, OCL will donate HK$5 to the two designated charities – the Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF and the Hong Kong Red Cross – for any transaction costing HK$50 and above by a passenger using Octopus to pay for a taxi hailed via the WETAXI HK app.
OCL Supports the Launch of Faster Payment System
OCL is gearing up to provide Octopus O! ePay customers with much faster and easier payment and fund transfer services, through leveraging the launch of the Faster Payment System (FPS) by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. With FPS, O! ePay customers can instantly transfer money to and from their bank accounts with O! ePay, thereby enabling them to top up their Octopus* anytime, anywhere, making P2P payments to friends and shopping online much faster and easier than ever!
O! ePay Plus and Pro customers can enjoy more advanced services such as eDDA set-up through the Octopus App, to link their bank accounts with O! ePay to enjoy instant and one-stop top-up service through the app. Plus, they can register the mobile numbers of their O! ePay accounts in the FPS addressing service, to make it easier for their friends using other e-wallets or banking apps to make payments via their mobile number, thus enlarging the P2P payment circle.
What’s more, O! ePay business account users can also transfer money to their bank accounts instantly anytime.
To get the most out of the new FPS service features, O! ePayLite customers are encouraged to upgrade their accounts to O! ePay Plus or Pro before the services roll out on 30 September.

Octopus CEO Joins Business Mission to Israel
In September, CEO Sunny Cheung, as one of the leaders representing the local Fintech industry, joined a four-day business mission to Israel led by Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. The delegation aimed to strengthen business and economic ties between Hong Kong and Israel, and seek closer collaboration in innovation and technology.
OCL Management Engages in Stakeholder Activities
Sales and Marketing Director Rita Li was invited to speak at the Tenth Digital Marketplace Seminar, staged by Hong Kong Intranet Registration Corporation Limited on 30 August, and “Branding To Win Seminar: New Era.New Vision” organised by Hong Kong Brand Development Council, the Trade and Industry Department, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association on 11 September.
The topics for the two speaking engagements were “The Fast and Inclusive Hybrid Payment Experience” and “Cashless Challenge or Boundless Opportunity”, respectively.
OctoClub Sponsors Colleagues to Join Street Run Event
OctoClub, OCL’s staff club, cares for the well-being of the Octopus colleagues. In early August, the club sponsored colleagues to join a street run, in which participants ran from Kowloon Bay Sports Ground to the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal after work, promoting a healthy lifestyle among our staff. The event also accepted Octopus cards and O! ePay for payment, so runners did not need to bring cash with them, demonstrating how Octopus can contribute to a smart city.
