Established in 2005, Octopus Holdings Limited is owned by the major transport operators in Hong Kong, and is the holding company of Octopus Cards Limited, the operator of the world's leading contactless smartcard payment system.
The holding company was incorporated after a restructuring which aimed to spin
off Octopus' non-payment businesses
into new, separate subsidiaries
independent of the Octopus
payment business that is regulated by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
This creates a better environment
for future business development
and operational efficiency.
In addition to Octopus Cards Limited, there are five wholly-owned subsidiaries set up under the holding company:

Octopus Connect Limited - to provide customer relationship management and consumer research services.
Octopus Investments Limited - an investments holding company.
Octopus China Investments Limited - an investments holding company for China related projects.
