Nurturing children in need
Since 2007, more than 700 children have benefited from the Octopus Kids' Nurturing Programme.

The Octopus Kids' Nurturing Programme has received extensive recognition and support since its inception. The 2008 programme obtained a matching grant from the government's Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged, enabling an additional 120 children to benefit from the programme. These children were given the opportunity to participate in a number of extracurricular activities, which helped them build their confidence while exploring their potential.

The 30 best-performing children were invited to join the Octopus Kids' Wise Spending Happy Tour (Part II) in January 2009 in recognition of their efforts in the programme. Many of them had rarely had the chance to travel outside their neighbourhood because of a lack of resources, and they were treated to an enjoyable outing with volunteers from Octopus. First they enjoyed lunch at McDonald's in Hung Hom. Then they were each given an Octopus with HK$100 of value to pay for expenses and buy presents for their families. Under the guidance of the Octopus volunteers, they learned how to plan their expenses and make wise use of their money according to their needs. Afterwards, they spent an exciting and educational afternoon at the Science Museum.

"The children were thrilled and proud to be selected to take part in this recognition activity," one of the participating volunteers from Octopus said. "It's really touching to see the joy that radiated from their faces and witness their selfless love and care for their families. I'm very pleased that the Octopus Kids' Nurturing Programme truly helps the needy children in the community and that Octopus staff are involved in it."
