A total of 100 students participated in the Octopus Kids' Nurturing Programme. Thirty of the most outstanding were invited to join a one-day Hong Kong Island Tour in November in recognition of their excellent performance.

For many of the underprivileged families living in Tin Shui Wai and Yuen Long, a trip to Hong Kong Island seems like a distant dream. One-third of the students making the trip said they had never before set foot on Hong Kong Island. More than half said they had never even ridden on a tram.

With the help of Octopus volunteers, they enjoyed a wonderful day. One of the highlights was a ride on the Peak Tram, followed by a visit to Madame Tussauds' wax museum and a chance to take in the views of Hong Kong from the observation deck.
The tour was a valuable educational experience, giving participants an opportunity to broaden their horizons and learn the principles of sound financial management. They were each given an Octopus with a stored value of HK$100 to cover their expenses on transport and lunch. With the advice of the volunteer team, they were also encouraged to share their happiness with their families by buying them gifts with the remaining value.
